A YouTuber who spends the month in solitary confinement is showing disturbing signs of mental health
A YouTube creator is experimenting with self-isolation for a month to see if he’s ‘crazy.’
Norme is a content creator who has gone through horrible experiences, such as going 12 days without sleep.
Now, he is locked in a small storage room with nothing but a mattress on the floor to see if his mind can survive one month completely alone.
And to make the challenge even more difficult, he plans to spend the entire time in pitch black. A camera mounted on the ceiling provides viewers with 24/7 footage of the stunt.
He also earns some money by asking viewers to pay him to fix various problems.
For $5, you’ll do a handstand, $20 for 15 minutes of wearing a straightjacket, and $50 for one hour of wearing a lip tape.
During more than 100 hours of testing, he has begun to exhibit strange behavior, prompting concerns from his more than a million subscribers.
A YouTube creator is experimenting with self-isolation for a month to see if he’s ‘crazy’.
Norme began to flow on October 16, and this marks the fifth day of isolation.
Until now, he has been seen and heard rambling on about ‘interstellar aliens,’ making ‘demonic’ noises and standing with his forehead against the wall in despair.
‘You need help,’ one viewer wrote in the chat 133 hours later. Another viewer wrote, ‘STOP OILING YOURSELF TO BE WITH THEM!’
Solitary confinement takes a toll on mental and physical health, and can be as stressful as physical torture.
That’s because humans are sociable animals that need stimulation and interaction with other people to thrive.
This practice is commonly used in prisons and jails across the US, and involves the isolation of people locked in their cells for 22.5 hours or more a day.
At least 122,840 people are locked up in solitary confinement in US jails and prisons every day, according to a 2023 joint report from the watchdog group Solitary Watch and the advocacy group Unlock the Box.
Many studies have shown that solitary confinement can cause or worsen anxiety, depression, panic attacks, panic attacks, hallucinations, psychosis and self-harm or suicide. .
And for people with pre-existing mental health conditions, prolonged periods of isolation can worsen their conditions.
In terms of physical health effects, people who endure solitary confinement are known to suffer from chronic headaches, loss of eyesight, sleep problems, weight loss, fatigue, heart rate and more.
Until now, he has been seen and heard rambling on about “intergalactic aliens,” making ‘demonic’ noises and standing with his forehead against the wall in despair.
Experts say that even a short time spent in isolation can have a big impact on a person’s mental and physical health.
These effects may explain Norme’s unusual behavior. But some of his viewers doubt the authenticity of the stunt, seeing this unusual behavior as a performance.
‘Give bro an oscar for being totally crazy,’ one viewer wrote.
Furthermore, Norme’s test does not fulfill the conditions of true confinement alone.
He leaves the room every now and then, maybe to eat or go to the toilet.
In addition, he has text-to-speech, which allows viewers to have their chat messages read over the speaker for Norme and the rest of the viewers to hear.
In true solitary confinement, prisoners are never allowed to leave their cells of their own accord. They eat, sleep and go to the bathroom all in one place.
Moreover, they never received any form of communication from other countries.
Whether Norme will be able to last a month in his temporary cell remains to be seen. One of his previous challenges, where he tried to beat the world record for the longest time without sleeping, ended in failure.
He stayed awake for 264 consecutive hours. But the official record is held by a man named Robert McDonald, who stayed awake for a total of 453 hours in 1986.
Norme also tried to break the record for the longest time without blinking in the previous video.
